How to be an effective exhibitor:
- Plan an activity that can involve many children at one time.
- Provide hands-on learning that has an element of scientific discovery to attract children to your exhibit and to make the time memorable and educational. Arts and crafts with an educational water theme are also extremely popular!
- Insure the activity is educational and appropriate for 4th and 5th graders.
- Come with a commitment to interact with students at your activity from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. with a lunch break in the middle.
- Be prepared to provide repeated presentations to many groups of students throughout the day.
Exhibits have ranged from posters to educational, hands-on activities in which kids:
- Perform tests to evaluate water quality;
- Pump water from ‘wells’ in a model of an aquifer to see the effect pumping has on aquifer water levels;
- Change a streambed in a model of a stream to watch erosion in action;
- View fish, bugs and reptiles that live near or in water.
Remember: The more you interact with the students, the more they will learn, and the more energized they will be to protect water resources throughout their lifetime. This is your chance to educate and inspire the next generation!
