Q : What is the goal of the Children's Clean Water Festival?
To teach children that they are capable of having real, long-lasting, positive impacts on water resources, and to equip them with the information they need to do that in a fun and engaging way.

Q : Is there any cost involved in bringing my class?
There is no charge to attend the Children's Clean Water Festival as a school group, although each teacher is responsible for arranging for transportation to and from the Festival. Occassionally, a local interest group, such as a watershed council, irrigation district, or water supply facility will donate the funds to pay for transportation for a particular school in their area. Q : Where does the Children's Clean Water Festival take place?
The Festival is held at Portland Community College - Sylvania. This is off I-5 (Campus Map). Traffic on I-5 can be very heavy, especially in the afternoon, travel times may need to be adjusted for unexpected delays. The campus is essentially free of college students on the day of the Festival. The Festival is held in three buildings and in the common areas between the buildings. Every 25 minutes, class groups move from room to room and building to building according to their schedule.

Q : What kinds of activities will my class participate in at the Festival?
Every attempt is made to move each class through a variety of activities that provide a broad understanding of the numerous aspects of water. For example, one class schedule may be 1) a class about well drilling, 2) a play about conservation in the Stage Show area, 3) a water terminology class using bingo cards, 4) seeing older students' projects in the Student Showcase, 5) choosing from numerous hands-on activities in the Exhibit Hall
We try to get every class into one Stage Show, one Exhibit Hall and one Student Showcase. Those are Festival favorites year after year. You can look at the pages on this site dedicated to those three activities to get more information about them. Please note: we are unable to accommodate specific requests by teachers to be in one class or another. The scheduling of classes into the Festival is a complicated process and we make every effort to vary the activities for each class. Thank you for your understanding.

Q : Will the Festival provide volunteers for my class?
The Festival provides one Class Guide for each class at the Festival. Because each class moves around an open campus, between several buildings, the Class Guide makes sure the class gets to its next activity on time. The Class Guide is not provided for control of the students, however. Therefore, we encourage each teacher to bring one chaperone for every 15 students. This year that will be especially important because there will be two sets of classes attending the Festival: one set in the morning, one set in the afternoon. During the lunch hour, there will be a bit of overlap between the sessions and it will be important to keep classes together.
